I'm still alive & I went to the BRITISH FASHION AWARDS

I think you'd agree capitals were definitely needed in that title...

Apologies for vanishing for 3 weeks, University is taking over my life & the work load has prevented me from updating my blog! Rude.

And YES, I was incredibly lucky enough to attend the British Fashion Awards last night at The Savoy Theatre in London. It was a fabulous evening with anyone worth naming in fashion attending and lots of champagne.  Unfortunately not only were we sat on the penultament row, but photography was strictly prohibited (so strict that stewards were running down aisles stopping people from using their cameras...) so I don't have many photographic evidence of the night... I will however still comment on the nights happenings & outfits.

My dress: Love (Topshop)
Shoes: New Look
Belt: Vintage

Dress: Jovinnista (Topshop)
Shorts: Topshop

We were greeted to the ceremony with a glass of champagne and a goodybag (which I was very happy about as soon as I saw the chocolate & fruit pastels). After starting half an hour late, the lights went down and Miss Lauren Laverne & Mr George Lamb (the hosts) appeared looking equally as smart as the location.  It wasn't long before awards were being presented and the creme de la creme of the British fashion scene were on stage either presenting or accepting awards.
Mary Katrantzou won Emerging Talent for her ready to wear collection and gave a rather long thank you speech in which you realised just how 'normal' she was compared to her spectacularly out of this world desgins.
Stella Tennant undoubtedly won the Model Award with her amazingly long & still going strong career within fashion modelling.
The highlight of not only my evening but also my life, was when Marc Jacobs presented Victoria Beckham with the Designer Brand Award.  Victoria looked stunningly chic in an all black floor length, halter neck gown with her hair slicked back and her signature dark eyes and pout.  However her pout disappeared when she got up to accept her award, and a whole new Victoria ventured out.  In the close proximity of family, friends and peers, the real Victoria Beckham came on show with genuine tears and nervous shaking, I was mesmorised by the so grateful and oddly vulnerable woman standing on stage.  She thanked her team & her peers, her parents who were there, David & her children (Harper was asleep in the hotel) at which point the tears flowed again in synchronisation with a loving "ahhhhh" from the audience.  With one last "Thank you so much" she hugged Marc, and off they strutted to the talented sound off the band.
For the second year the running, unsurprisngly Alexa Chung recieved the British Style Award for her unique style fusion of British country girl meets British city girl.  She was wearing an unusually-for-her sparklingly beautiful dress by another winner of the night; Christopher Kane.  Kane was the first winner to recieve the New Establishment award that was a new category for 2011.
Kate Hudson lovingly presented an award for Red Carpet to Stella McCartney with a nostalgic & humour felt story from Hudson's first Grammy event, in which McCartney dressed her.  Hudson glamorusly walked out only to pursue in getting out her glasses and iphone in order to read the story she had wrote before hand.  McCartney dressed in one of her own beautiful creations - a graphic jumpsuit- accepted her award by jokingly apologising for Hudson's story.
Sir Paul Smith won the BFC Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Award and even though he couldn't be there (he was on holiday with his wife for her birthday; an "old romantic" as Harold Tillman an old friend of Smiths & chairman of BFC said) he accepted with a funny & simple video in which he cycled into the room and ended with "Bye!!!" as the audience chuckled & discussed how like Paul it was.
The final award, of course and rightly so went to Sarah Burton for Designer of the Year.  She graciously accepted and thanked her team for making it all possible.  The quote "icing on the cake for a really amazing year" summed up her achievements and contribution to fashion this year and of which will definitely not be stopping any time soon!
I'm not going to upload photos upon photos of the attendees as today they've been all over the internet, papers & magazines so I'm sure you've all seen them but my top 6 dressed were:
Victoria Beckham - one word, CHIC.
Olivia Palmero- American classic
Sarah Burton- simple black dress that had flair & personality
Kate Hudson -effortless glamour
Tali Lennox- repping the English in a Mulberry beauty
Poppy Delevingne- I want that dress.

After nearly hyper ventilating quite a few times from seeing greats like Daphne Gusiness & my all time fave Henry Holland walk past, Nikita and I went off to get some much needed food and drink before the after party.
The after party was delibrately dark & loud but was fabulously atomspheric with the DJ playing great music into the small hours.  Models & fashionistas danced & sipped vodka apples while the photgrapher attempted to catch some million dollar shots.

Shoes for Show

Today I went to Brick Lane's Loading Bay for the Shoes for Show exhibition.  The event is the online shoe store Javori's first exhibition.

Simple layout in a white space with the shoes freely on display made the atomsphere even more special.

From Louboutin's to Turkish Bath shoes dating back to the 1890's, the collection was small but unique & spectacular.
Split into 3 catorgories; Shoes for Catwalk, Shoes for Couture & Innovative Design in Footwear; the heels varied in colour, heel height & style but all had the same WOW factor.

The exhibition finishes tomorrow but if you can get along to Brick Lane in time I strongly reccommend it!

I have included a few of my own photos and further down some professional ones from mission on the launch night...
